Construction is underway on a new affordable housing community in East Tampa, aimed at addressing the region’s shortage of affordable homes while supporting ongoing revitalization and growth.

Local leaders, from Related Urban Development Group, the affordable housing arm of developer Related Group, the city of Tampa, the Tampa Housing Authority and Mayor Jane Castor will be in attendance at the site for a groundbreaking ceremony Oct. 22.

The Residences at East End, located at 5709 N. 47th St. comprises five, three-story garden-style buildings totaling 174 multifamily units and a standalone clubhouse. Construction began in June and is expected to be completed by the end of next year, according to a release.

“The Residences at East End is an opportunity to create stability and a foundation for growth for families in East Tampa,” Albert Milo, president of Related Urban Development Group, said in the release. “Through this partnership with the city of Tampa and THA, we are building attainable, high-quality homes where residents can thrive near key schools, jobs and community resources.

The project represents a $68.6 million public-private partnership between Related Urban, the city of Tampa and THA, according to the release.

The community will offer two-bed, two-bath units for households earning between 22% and 80% of the area median income — roughly between $25,000 to $67,000 annually for a two-person household in Tampa, according to 2025 federal HUD and state income limits.

There will be 43 units supported by Section 8 Project-Based Vouchers from THA, while the remaining 131 units will be funded through Low-Income Housing Tax Credits, according to the release. Amenities include a dog park, picnic areas, a pocket park and a fitness center.

“Breaking ground on the Residences at East End marks another critical step in our commitment to creating a more inclusive and equitable Tampa," Castor said in the release. "This part of Tampa has long faced a shortage of quality, attainable housing, and this project brings real, lasting solutions for families who deserve the opportunity to live in safe, vibrant neighborhoods.
